Litigation Information Lifecycle Management: Making the Most of Summation's Workflow Tools

We may not often think of it this way, but information used in litigation has a lifecycle -- from its creation by a party to its use by the trier-of-fact to resolve a matter. Much of the struggle faced by lawyers and their staff is the migration of this information through the lifecycle, whether it be from one media to the next -- digital data to paper, for example -- or the transmission of content from party to counsel to witness to judge or jury.

The importance of effectively managing the lifecycle of litigation information has become more pressing as corporate IT departments move toward full-scale adoption of digital archiving methods to underscore compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other recent corporate governance measures. Full response to regulatory or discovery requests while protecting the company's best interests can be onerous, disruptive and extremely expensive.

Fortunately, Summation systems incorporate workflow tools that can:

  • Tap into or receive corporate content for a paring review that defines responsive and relevant information

  • Deliver circumscribed subsets of information to outside counsel for further review

  • Monitor and collaborate with outside counsel at the document level

  • Allow flexible application of the best means to review, convert, collaborate, and produce regulatory or discovery response content to meet the specific needs of the matter at hand.

The seminar will focus on the tools and methodologies available in Summation for identifying and winnowing large collections of information for migration through the litigation support system to the hands of the trial lawyer.
