In 2000, Summation launched a new product
line Summation Blaze® LG which
consists of three software products: Summation Blaze LG, Blaze
LG Gold, and iBlaze®. The Summation Blaze LG products offer
even more functionality than the Summation Blaze product line.
Below, weve outlined the top ten reasons to trade-over
to Summation Blaze LG, although there are many more...
1. NEW CASE EXPLORER INTERFACE
More than a new look, the Case Explorer
interface allows for greatly expanded functionality, such as
transcript groupings, multiple document collections, and multiple
search results. The Case Explorer also serves as the command
center for launching integrated searches (i.e. searching multiple
case components and repositories simultaneously). The flexible
desktop layouts and floating window maneuverability gives you
the ability to effectively view in tandem, spot the relationships
between, and ultimately tie together powerful combinations
of evidence.
That was then:

This is now:

2. ENHANCED IMAGING, INCLUDING PDF SUPPORT
The Summation Blaze® LG family of products
all include Summations new image viewer, expanding to
include multi-file formats such as:
- Group IV TIF, single and multi-page;
JPEG; BMP; WMF (Windows Meta File); PDF, single and multi-page
(LG Gold and iBlaze only)
The new image viewer includes a wide range
of markup tools that are available in different colors including
redaction, Bates numbering, Confidential and other
stamps, highlighting, and drawing tools such as arrows and
boxes.
LG products include the Slideshow feature
that displays photographs, documents, transcript excerpts,
and more for presentations. Summation Blaze LG products are
also compatible with image viewers from other leading vendors,
such as IPRO Tech, Inc., inData Corporation, Verdict Systems,
Inc. and Image Capture Engineering.
3. EDOCS & EMAIL
eDocs are electronic documents produced,
or otherwise stored, in the form of an electronic computer
file, as opposed to a paper document. Search these electronic
documents and view them as plain text or in their original
format (using Microsoft Word®, for example).
With the new E-Loader Lite facility in
Summation, you can also load e-mails and the attachments into
the Core Database for organization and retrieval. Compatible
with Microsoft Outlook® and Lotus Notes.
- Facilitate the handling and take advantage
of e-mail evidence, including important meta-data underlying
e-mail content, as electronic evidence becomes critical in
todays litigation.
- Search e-mails, the attachments, and
electronic documents individually or along with other case
data such as pleadings, transcripts, scanned documents, notes,
and more with ONE simple command.
4. PRODUCTION TOOLS
Take the hassle out of document productions
with Summations Production tools.
- Automatically create consecutively
numbered (Bates-numbered) production sets and print the set
with number stamps, watermarks, and redactions.
- Archive individual production sets as
searchable indexes with production set numbers, watermarks,
and redactions preserved as archived images.
- Instantly view a set or individual documents production
histories.
- Produce paperless production sets via
the Browser Briefcase that anyone, even non-Summation users,
can view the records and images with a web browser.
5. CUSTOMIZE VIA SCRIPTING AND HTML
Customize and extend our program to fit
your needs. Anyone versed in JScript, VBScript, HTML or XML
can customize our software. Several third party software programs
now work with Summation (e.g. trial presentation, imaging,
and case management systems), via scripts developed in all
or part by the third party company, including but not limited
to:
- TrialDirector Suite 3.0 & 3.1 by
inData Corporation
- IPROView and IPROScan by IPRO Tech,
Inc.
- Sanction II by Verdict Systems, Inc.
- CaseMap 3.5 and TimeMap 2 by CaseSoft,
Ltd.
The Summation scripting object model is
available at: info.summation.com/scripting/#scripting.
6. MULTIPLE DOCUMENT COLLECTIONS INCLUDING
REMOTE ACCESS
Firms may now search other databases, referred
to as Companion or Remote Databases, through Summations
unified interface. These companion or remote databases can
either be:
- Other Summation databases (in addition
to the Core Database);
- CaseVault, Summations Litigation
Support Hosting Service;
- Microsoft Access®;
- Microsoft SQL Server 7 or 2000;
- Any OLEDB provider databases.
Use the Summation Web
Server Console to set up repositories...
7. PLEADINGS FOLDER
Search internally generated Pleading files
on your hard drive or the firms network, along with your
other case data. The Pleadings hits are displayed in Summation's
integrated search results screen. Key pleading content is readily
available in Summation, for more complete case knowledge management.
8. EVIDENCE LINKING
Once the relationship between testimonial
and documentary evidence is spotted, memorialize it with evidence
links for future timely, strategic recall.
- Chain together different pieces of evidence
in your case to preserve and illuminate combinations of crucial
information.
- Create links to lines of testimony in
a transcript, images of documents, web pages, and even external
electronic documents.
9. BRIEFCASING AND BROWSER BRIEFCASE
Briefcasing, a unique feature of Summation
iBlaze®, is the ability to create special document collections
from Core, Remote, or Companion databases. Use the Briefcase
function to create:
- A document production tracking folder
with redacted images (while the source database contains
the original, unredacted documents);
- Exhibit sets with a different numbering;
- Mini-repositories of summaries and images
downloaded for offline use when an internet connection is
unavailable;
- Subsets of information for your expert
witness or other peripheral members of the litigation team
to review. Users can restrict the database columns saved
to a Briefcase.
With the Browser Briefcase, you can export
Briefcased records and associated images to an easily readable
HTML format. Anyone, even non-Summation users, can view the
Browser Briefcase via a browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer).
10. ENHANCED CASE ORGANIZER
The Case Organizer facilitates free-form
analysis throughout your case, from pre-complaint investigation
through post-trial motions and appeals. Bring information from
all areas of your Summation case (as well as from other programs)
into the Case Organizer to outline and analyze.
- Create chronologies and the Case Organize
will instantly sort entries by date or text.
- Any data added to the organizer is automatically
linked to the original source so you can refer back to it
anytime.
